In 2023, the Chardonnay was really singular. Just stunning and good enough to vineyard designate. The aroma reminds me of toast with lemon curd and a smell of the salty sea. The texture on the palate is silky but not heavy with subtle almond, plantain, and the lemon oil and curd aromas lingering on a long finish.

This is such a seductive wine, it is definitely the easiest Pinot Noir we make to just flat out like. It is yummy. The flavors are persistent on the palate with some teak notes on the finish and a freshness that encourages you to keep on taking sips.

The aroma of the 2022 La Bruma bursts from the glass with black and blue fruit framed by leather, cedar, graphite, and hints of white pepper. The palate has more of the savory iron notes like a medium rare strip steak. Hints of blood orange and blackberry linger on the bright finish.

The floral nose is lifted with green apple blossoms, pomelo skin, lemongrass, and guava notes wafting from the glass. The texture on the mouth is silky yet not heavy or oily with pronounced minerality lingering on the top of the mouth and back of the palate.

The 2007 Estate Pinot Noir was the predecessor to the Ama cuvée and in the warm 2007 vintage this wine leapt from the glass with cherry, sandalwood, and tea aromas. Now at a mere 18 years of age, this wine still sings but has added more floral, rose petal and brass aromas to the core of cherry fruit. The mouth feel is cohesive, supple and soothing with savory flavors and good acidity on the very long finish. This tastes like a 10 year old wine and is gorgeous.

A prologue indicating that what follows is a wine of elegance, lift and grace not heavy, flabby, richness. The texture on the palate is smooth with medium weight. The red fruit flavors mix with mineral and forest floor aromas that linger on a salivating finish with bright acidity that is present but not aggressive. This is quintessential Scallop Shelf Pinot Noir and we look forward to seeing it evolve with time.

Captivating cherry, pipe tobacco, and garam masala curry aromas emerge from deep in the glass. A lead mineral element enters in the mid-palate with plum, robust red fruits, and late fall forest notes lingering on a very long finish that appears to build and broaden with more air and time. This is drinking really well right now and will be for 5, 10, and many more years in the future.

Bright and youthful mint, bay leaf, lemon curd, and green banana notes, and fresh mouth-watering acidity. Draped over the spine is a silky mid-palate highlighting curd, flint, and salt notes. The finish is quite long with aromas building with time and leaving an almost metallic aroma on the back palate. It is wonderful right now, joyful with bright fruit notes and will age into a harmonious expression that captures the singular essence of Peay Chardonnay.

The nose pulls you in with a deep blackberry core of fruit with lavender incense notes dancing around an inky, graphite quality I find tantalizing. In the mouth this presents as a lamb reduction sauce—meaty and iron inflected—with an incredible depth of flavor. Despite coming from a cold site this is not a lean wine. There is plenty of density to the wine but it has moderate alcohol and fresh acidity. This wine is excellent right now and has the structure and profile to age, well, forever. If you like Peay Syrah, buy a case, minimum.
