The floral nose is lifted with green apple blossoms, pomelo skin, lemongrass, and guava notes wafting from the glass. The texture on the mouth is silky yet not heavy or oily with pronounced minerality lingering on the top of the mouth and back of the palate.
Peay Viognier does not resemble typical French or American Viognier in style. This is due to our very cold growing conditions and Vanessa’s desire to capture our site’s unadorned, singular expression of Viognier in the bottle. She ages in 100% neutral barrels to promote elegance and to reveal the nervy, high acid, mineral character of our Viognier; the result is the opposite profile of a typical Viognier.
The extended cool fall weather resulted in a really lovely, complete Viognier with plenty of varietal character and the structure that acolytes of our Viognier seek out. The texture on the mouth is silky yet not heavy or oily with pronounced minerality lingering on the top of the mouth and back of the palate. The aromas of the nose are also found in the taste and are well-integrated with added flavors of saltiness and lime oil on the finish. We made about 50% of last year’s production due to poor set. We will be sure to have enough for our customers throughout the release period and will do our best to have some for folks late to the game.
