2021 Peay Vineyards Estate Marsanne/Roussanne, West Sonoma Coast

This is a smashing good Peay Roussanne/Marsanne. I qualify my assessment by saying this Roussanne is an excellent version of a Peay Roussanne/Marsanne. You should not expect rich, honeyed flavors found in warmer climate wines made by people who do more “winemaking.” The nose on the 2021 Peay Estate Roussanne/Marsanne features bright Kaffir lime, lemon confit, and floral lemon thyme notes brought into focus on the palate with wet slate, parmesan rind, orange citrus zest, and green almond flavors. The silky texture carries straight back to the finish with quite bright and refreshing acidity. Our Roussanne/Marsanne wines are quite good in their youth, especially if you appreciate the crisp, linear nature of the wine. They have the structure to age, however, if you like what happens with age (think more almond, madras curry, floral notes, and less perceived briskness).
