2023 Peay Vineyards Maritima Estate Chardonnay, West Sonoma Coast
This is our twenty-second vintage of the Estate Chardonnay and the vine age and the long, cool, fall weather resulted in a wine with signature focus, tension, and refinement. This translates to the wine in citrus blossom, mint, and basil aromas cradled by wet stone and light hoppy notes. The weight is medium to light bodied yet the texture is silky like a woman’s elbow-length glove. This is an energetic and fresh Chardonnay unburdened by fat and simply magnificent.
The name Maritima is Portuguese for maritime, a defining feature of our vineyard pressed up against the Pacific Ocean and nestled in the cool and damp marine layer. This is our twenty-second vintage of the Estate Chardonnay and the vine age and the long, cool, fall weather resulted in a wine with signature focus, tension, and refinement. This translates to the wine in citrus blossom, mint, and basil aromas cradled by wet stone and light hoppy notes. The weight is medium to light bodied yet the texture is silky like a woman’s elbow-length glove. Hints of Parmesan and Manchego rind combine with citrus oil and flint finishing with a nerving ocean spray and oyster shell quality. This is an energetic and fresh Chardonnay unburdened by fat and simply magnificent.
